Rockstead knives are known for their phenomenal sharpness and boast producing the world’s sharpest knives. They are able to achieve this with their Honzukuri/Hamaguri (convex) edge grinds, which allow for having a thick blade without sacrificing any sharpness. The polishing process takes the knives from #400 grit, then #800, #1200, and finally to #2000 grit before final buffing to achieve that gorgeous mirror polish. This ensures an edge that is mind-blowingly sharp and one that will stand up to rigorous use while maintaining and edge that will last for quite a while.

Their Hizen model is a smaller version of their HIGO with very similar style and characteristics,but in a smaller package. HIZEN means “the old name of the ‘kyushu’ district” in Japan.” The blade on this knife differs from those of the HIGO series in that the blade on the HIZEN has a blade angle of 30 degrees near the half, and a  blade angle of 24 degrees near the tip, with one gradually reducing angle connecting them. This reducing angled blade ensures superior sharpness combined with long-lasting edge retention. This knife also features A7075 Duralumin handle scales that have beautiful fluting and a mirror-polished blade, strong frame-lock with steel lockbar insert, and blued steel pocket clip. Duralumin (also called duraluminum or dural) is a hard, light alloy consisting of aluminum with zinc, copper and other elements and is commonly used in airframe fabrication.

The DLC version of the Hizen features a black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating to protect the XYR7 blade, and the edge has been given a beautiful glossy black mirror polish.
